    Error
    Field: brand

Brand Missing or Invalid in Google Shopping Feed

Your product is missing the brand attribute or has an invalid brand value. Brand is a required field for most products in Google Shopping.

Use our free Feed Validator to check for this and other errors automatically.

    What This Error Means

The brand attribute tells Google who manufactures or produces the product. This is essential for product matching, search relevance, and resolving Google Merchant Center feed errors.

    Brand is required when:

    • The product has a clearly associated brand or manufacturer
    • You're reselling branded products
    • The brand is visible on product packaging

    Invalid brand values include:

    • Generic terms like "Generic", "Unknown", "N/A", or "None"
    • Your store name for products you don't manufacture
    • Product categories instead of brand names
    • Special characters or placeholder text

    How to Fix It

    1. Identify the actual brand — Check product packaging, manufacturer information, or supplier data for the correct brand name.
    2. Use exact brand spelling — Use the official brand name as it appears on the product (e.g., "Nike" not "NIKE" or "nike").
    3. For your own products — If you manufacture the product, use your company/brand name as the brand.
    4. For unbranded products — Use your store brand or setidentifier_exists to "no" for truly generic items.
    5. Request brand data from suppliers — Include brand as a required field in your supplier data imports.

    Additional Tips

    • Consistent brand spelling improves product matching and aggregation
    • For licensed products, use the licensor's brand (e.g., "Disney" for Disney-themed products)
    • Don't include model numbers or product names in the brand field
    • For books, use the publisher name as the brand
    • For movies/media, use the studio or label as the brand
    • Create a brand mapping table to ensure consistency across your catalog
